Movin'

Recently, I have completed my additional qualification course in Intermediate Health and Physical Education (grades 6 – 10) through Trent University (Peterborough, Ontario, Canada). My decision to add an additional teaching qualification was driven by a need to continue growing, learning and finding new roles within the education community. But more so, to engage with my other lifelong passion that drives me daily which is my commitment to sport, play and physical activities.

I have been able to satisfy my love for physical education throughout my teaching career as a coach in a variety of varsity sports such as Track and Field, Soccer, Basketball and Softball. Additionally, I have consistently been active in community sports programs ranging from ultimate frisbee to ice hockey both as a member and a community leader. Being a parent has ignited my desire to demonstrate a life long appreciation and need for being active as I hope to demonstrate to my children the value of an active lifestyle and making responsible healthy choices.

After 20+ years specializing in the arts, I now look to a new chapter in education that allows me to continue teaching what I am passionate about in a new arena. During my qualifications I was able to study current trends in physical education, student engagement and participation, accessibility and supporting students with special needs, classroom practices, teaching games for understanding, and building lessons, units and programs that meet the needs of our physical education learners.  Coupled with a lifetime commitment of activity, a lengthy career as a teacher in a specialist role, I am excited for this next journey to help inspire kids and get them moving.

A consistent commitment to a life driven by health and physical activity allows for an opportunity to stay young, have fun and be an active part of your local community.
